The thought of making preserves is a daunting one. The problem of canning is what comes to mind immediately. So with fear and trepidation, I tried this recipe, but with a caveat: make a small batch and skip the canning. That can wait for another day, week, year...
I jumbled blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries,
added a bit of Royal Gala apples for pectin,
(along with sugar, lemon juice and zest)
and boiled it all down for 15 minutes.
Voila! Jumbleberry Jam!
Spread on La Brea bread with a layer of Nutella-
SUPERB!
Your jam looks fantastic but with Nutella, oh wow! That is a combo I have to try soon!
ReplyDeleteYum, that looks like a wonderful combination! I love La Brea bread, so good. Thanks for preserving with me this week.
ReplyDeleteYeah, canning made me nervous, but it's worth it: I made the jumbleberry preserves from Melissa's book last year and enjoyed a jar a few weeks ago.
Rebecca your jumbleberry preserves look fabulous! I was also a little trepid about making preserves but it turned out to be easier than I thought. I too didn't can, but I am definitely going to try it out next time. What a stroke of genius to combine your preserves with nutella. It sounds heavenly!
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic! Great mix of flavors!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness....your preserves look soooo good! I love the name jumbleberry jam...too cute! Wish I would have been able to cook along with you guys.
ReplyDeleteLove the Nutella and jumbleberry preserves, delicious! LOVE the preserve pictures; the colors are stunning together.
ReplyDeleteI've been scared of preserves as well largely because I've also been avoiding canning at all costs =) Yours sound great. I think these are on my short list as soon as I get back to my kitchen!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos...and easy to make. They make great gifts!

Yummy!! I love the jumbleberry with the Nutella. And it looks beautiful too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful color your jam has. It looks tastier than any store-bought jam. I can totally relate about the canning. I made peach preserves a couple of days ago and just made a small batch as well to pop in the fridge. It's posted on my blog if you want to take a look.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the different kinds of berries. Such a beautiful color.
ReplyDeleteSo I didn't make the delicious looking Jam, but you did inspire me to buy some Nutella!
ReplyDeleteSG- you're too funny.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for homemade jams now, as they really are a cinch to make.
Ooooh Nutella - good call! Your preserves look gorgeous. I'm completely with you, I made a small amount and left the canning for another time. I really want to learn, but I think I'm going to put it off until next summer :)
ReplyDeleteNutella..... and JAM?! I think I'm in some sort of food heaven! Why haven't I thought of that?!
