oreo truffles

More 4th Grade Party Food — tiny bites, festive, delicious, and simple to make (up until the dipping part, that is...)

Naming the treat, however, was a bit hit-or-miss. I had seen the recipe on a website and was going to call them Oreo Cookie Balls, but when The Son heard the title, he snickered and said, "Um, Mom, that sounds a little weird..."

So now they are the exalted Oreo Truffles. Quite fancy schmancy. And scrumptious, as any truffle should be.

Printable Recipe

1 16-ounce package Oreo cookies
1 8-ounce package cream cheese, room temperature
1 package candy melts, use the color to suit your need

Using a food processor, pulverize the Oreo cookies.

Add the cream cheese. Blend to combine thoroughly.

Shape the oreo mixture into 48 1-inch balls. Ignore the fact that they look like moose poop.
Freeze for an hour.

Melt the candy melts. Using a toothpick, dip the oreo ball
into the melted chocolate and place on waxed paper or Silpat.
(Keep half the balls in the freezer until ready for use. If they
aren't cold enough, they start falling apart when being dipped.)

I had some technical issues- like how to get the darn thing off without messing up the sides? I initially used chopsticks, but then decided to leave some of the bottom part uncoated. I gently removed the toothpick while holding the ball with my fingers. Sprinkles were quickly added just after dipping, as the coating hardened within a minute or so. Refrigerate until firm.

I love how these —

transform into
a sinfully, rich, delightful mouthful of dark chocolate yumminess.
